How To Audition

How to audition for future DV8 projects

DV8 does not have a permanent company of performers, and generally recruits on a project-by-project basis. Performers are cast on their suitability for the content of a planned show.

The company sometimes holds open auditions. These are advertised on this page and through the major audition advertising channels. Audition notices are also sent to the DV8 email list, which you can join by completing the request form.

Apart from these open auditions, the company is continually on the lookout for performers for future projects. If you would like to be considered, here are the steps to take ......

Send both a CV and youtube link of yourself dancing to the email address below.

PLEASE NOTE

We receive thousands of dancers’ DVDs and we come across the same problems time and time again with showreels. Here are our tips for how to present yourself well:

  • ..... Be selective in what you send

Ideally, we would like to see a short (5 minute) extract of you doing some clear technical dancing - with no odd camera angles or special effects. We need to be able to quickly assess your style and technique.
  • ….. Make sure we can see you clearly
Footage that is shaky, shot from far away or that features dark clothing against a dark background makes it very difficult for us to see what you’re doing. We prefer to see solo pieces but if you are sending in ensemble footage make sure that you clearly identify yourself in each clip and make sure to include a photo of yourself with your CV.
  • ….. Be relevant
Try to send us material that is recent and appropriate. Don’t send in footage that is completely contrary to DV8’s work, as we won’t be able to tell how well you can adapt your style.
  • ….. Don’t make it difficult
If you’re including links to your website/online videos, make sure it is easy for us to find you. Don’t make us hunt through a company website or 50 minutes of footage.
  • ….. Make the effort
It is always best to see something that has been created specifically for the DV8 submission. It doesn’t have to be fancy, but a short, considered piece of improvisation shot in a studio is often much more helpful than footage from a large scale production.

If, from these, the director thinks you might be suitable, the company will contact you.
