Created with 16 dancers, Lloyd Newson's latest work is based upon Robin Norwood's book
entitled Women Who Love Too Much.
The dance examines how men view women and their bodies, relationships between
women and men, and the imbalance of power between the sexes.
DV8 Physical Theatre challenges the myths about violence and power by looking at the facts:
MYTH .... Physical attacks happen in dark alleys, deserted parks and public places,
and are performed by strangers
FACT .... 25 percent of all violent crime is 'wife' assault in the home
MYTH .... The punishment fits the crime
FACT .... In 1983 a 26-year-old man served 25 days for raping a 6-year-old girl
MYTH .... A woman has the right to make decisions about her own body
FACT .... Parliament is currently drafting legislation to allow fathers more power
to prevent their pregnant partners from having abortions
DV8 Physical Theatre was formed in the summer of 1986. Funny, aggressive, tender and dangerous by turn,
the company's works have one main theme in common: the battleground of human relationships.

My Body, Your Body is loosely based on a book entitled "Women Who Love Too Much"
by Robin Norwood. The initial inspiration for this work was the result of letters and a tape recording of a close female friend who 'loved too much'.
My Body, Your Body started with the story of one woman but has ended up
being shared by many. Consequently, in addition to my own company, I'd like to thank the third year BA students at Leicester Polytechnic for their commitment and honesty when the preliminary work was created in December 1986. Also thanks to the late Company of Cracks for their initial support and stories which helped form the basis of this work.

thy shall bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee." Genesis, Chapter III verse xvi ![]() top of page |
