DV8 Physical Theatre challenges what dance is and what dance should be about.
... caught between who we think we are and who we think we ought to be; hiding in conformity
we put on the mask, smile and pretend so we too can be invited to the ball. But what happens to those
who don't get invited, who aren't perfect, who can't pretend?
DV8 presents a piece about perfection and pretence; about how society measures individuals and we,
in turn, value ourselves .... the cost of living
- - - -
People pass through a park, their histories held in their bodies. The biggest single cause of death
in Australian men between the ages of 18 and 35 is suicide. When the plaster fell off the walls
for the fourth time, the plasterer said it was my fault not his. If you say something enough you'll believe it.
When I was younger I thought I was invincible, my X-rays show I'm not. An ex-lover died of AIDS last week,
he kept his status hidden. Cover yourself, the body doesn't lie.
A man promised to be faithful to his female partner. She found a long blond hair in their bed.
She challenged him on this. He accused her of being neurotic and delusional. She is now on Prozac
and going to therapy. She still doesn't know the truth. Protect yourself, deny everything.
Can TV news be reality when plain women aren't allowed to present it.
Put on the mask if you want to be invited to the ball.
At what age did the look of innocence leave your eyes.
Jump while you can.
