Dance, drama and design combined to make an explosive cocktail in DV8's latest work, Bound To Please at the Gardner Arts Centre.

This provocative new work takes a look at the parallels between dance and social conformity. The fragmented narrative shows the dancers in relationships which suffer under the pressure of unspoken rules.

Their writhing bodies take social adaptability to a grotesque extreme in the disturbing opening 'party' sequence. The naked love-making of a young man and an elderly woman forces the audience to question their own rules and aesthetics.

Dance confronts real life, pushing the boundaries of contemporary dance beyond that of making pretty pictures performed by youthful, obedient bodies.

The result is shocking, deeply uncomfortable and quite brilliant.
